General Hospital star Kimberly McCullough is returning as Robin Scorpio this fall for a storyline that kicks off with the medical expert desperately trying to save a life.

Hot on the heels of the exciting news that both Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) and Genie Francis (Laura Spencer) have extended their General Hospital stays comes the equally exciting news that Kimberly McCullough is reprising her role as Robin Scorpio Drake this November.

The long-running soap's executive producer, Frank Valentini, announced the news in an official statement: "Kimberly is part of our GH family and everyone is happy to welcome her home," he wrote. "There is some really cool stuff planned for Robin. It's a race against time and a trio is formed in a desperate attempt to help save a life that hangs in the balance, but that's all you're going to get out of me."

The actress, who revealed to Soap Opera Digest that she has already shot one episode, says she's thrilled to be returning to Port Charles. "I can't wait to get out of my scrubs! Although I can't promise anything," she enthuses. "Either way, I'm back to kick some butt and tell some truth!"

Adds GH co-head writer Jean Passanante: "Robin's fate is something that has been sort of hanging out there in the universe, waiting to be addressed, and [due to] circumstances beyond anyone's control, really, we haven't been able to do anything about it. But now we can."

And the plan, according to co-head writer Shelly Altman? "There have been a lot of unanswered questions for a long time that we're really very excited to be able to answer."

McCullough signed on to play the role of Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Anna's daughter in 1985. She has played the role on-again, off-again since then and recently started dabbling in directing, having already helmed an episode of Pretty Little Liars.

Speaking of Robert, Tristan Rogers announced that he is returning to General Hospital, too. For more on his return, click here.
