Two of daytime's brightest shining young stars -- General Hospital's Sydney Mikayla (ex-Trina Robinson) and The Young and the Restless' Jacob Aaron Gaines (Moses Winters) -- will soon be sharing the screen in a powerful film called Jerome.
The emotional drama, directed by Gianfranco Fernandez-Ruiz, tells the story of a young man who struggles with feelings of inadequacy when an annual Fathers and Sons event forces him to confront the absence of his own father. The teen deals with his emotions the only way he knows how -- basketball.
Elias Ferguson plays the title role in the film, which also stars Oscar Torre and Tristan Cunningham.
The filmmakers posted a video to Vimeo in which they say Jerome, at its heart, is about brotherhood between Black and Brown people: "[The film] is about a kid going through life without his father because the father is incarcerated. But we want to put across that the film is not about incarceration, but rather a kid going through life dealing with the repercussions of not having a father...the core of the story [is] two kids that grow through this film without needing any help from external forces, like adults or parents. It's organic between them. We feel that these two characters are breaking down the barriers of masculinity in the Black and Brown community."
