Daytime alum Lisa Banes (Eve McBain, One Life to Live) passed away on Monday following a June 4 hit-and-run accident that left her critically injured.
Banes' rep confirmed the news of the 65-year-old's passing. "We are heartsick over Lisa's tragic and senseless passing," the rep told ET. "She was a woman of great spirit, kindness, and generosity, and [she was] dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera, and even more so to her wife, family, and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives."
Banes's manager, David Williams, previously told the Associated Press that the Los Angeles-based actress had been on her way to visit her alma mater, the Julliard School, when she was struck by either a scooter or a motorized bicycle while she was crossing Amsterdam Avenue in the Upper West Side of Manhattan near Lincoln Center. She was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside and listed in critical condition. According to the New York Post, the incident left Banes with a traumatic brain injury from which she was unable to recover.
Following the accident, the scooter was last seen going northbound on Amsterdam Avenue.
Banes is known to daytime fans for her 2004 role as OLTL's Eve McBain, the mother of John McBain (Michael Easton) and Michael McBain (Richard Brandon Johnson/Nathaniel Marston/Chris Stack). She also starred opposite Tom Cruise in the 1988 film Cocktail, played Martha Gellhorn in the TV mini-series Hemingway, and played the mother of Rosamund Pike's character in Gone Girl. Her most recent role came in the Amazon horror series Them.
Banes had been married to Kathryn Kranhold, a reporter who has worked for the Centre for Public Integrity, Wall Street Journal, and Hartford Courant, since 2017.
