Eva LaRue cast in untitled ABC pilot

Eva LaRue may be headed back to ABC this fall, and if she is, she'll be trading in the high drama of soap opera for the funnier side of a situation comedy. LaRue is best known to daytime audiences as Maria Santos on All My Children.

If CBS renews its popular CSI: Miami crime drama for a new season, Horatio Caine might be in the market for a new crime-solving detective. Former All My Children favorite Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos) could be turning in her badge for a role on an ABC comedy pilot, starring Mandy Moore.

With CSI: Miami still on the bubble for a renewal, LaRue has hedged her bets by accepting a guest-starring role on the yet-to-be-titled comedy pilot. The new comedy pilot explores the pressures surrounding newlyweds who have to find a balance between their families and married life. Moore will play the new wife, and LaRue will play Veronica, one of the wife's sisters.

If ABC opts to pick up the series for a full-season commitment, the Hollywood Reporter reveals that LaRue will have the option to continue with the series. In the event that CBS does renew CSI: Miami, it is unclear if LaRue will be obligated to remain with the show.

A sitcom is a big departure from drama for LaRue, who has played Detective Natalie Boa Vista on CSI: Miami since 2005. It would not, however, be LaRue's first foray into comedy. In 1997, LaRue left her All My Children role to take on a role on the short-lived UPN series, Head Over Heels.

In addition to her possible new career move, Eva LaRue will be honored with the 2012 Inspiration Award offered by The Alliance for Women in the Media. The Inspiration Award acknowledges LaRue as a spokesperson for Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. Previous recipients include Betty White (Ann Douglas, The Bold and the Beautiful). The 2012 Genii Awards celebration takes place on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, and the organization has chosen Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe, B&B and The Young and the Restless) to host the event.

LaRue portrayed the beautiful Dr. Maria Santos on All My Children off and on from 1993 to 2011. She also appeared on Santa Barbara in 1988.
